This app is about the Book of Jubilees, often considered a second-century B.C.E. document, which serves as a retelling of Biblical history from creation to Moses. It segments time into 49-year periods or 'Jubilees', adding details not found in Genesis like the names of Adam and Eve's daughters and the involvement of a demonic entity, 'Mastema'. The author proposes a 364-day and 12-month solar calendar as a reform from the lunar-based Jewish Calendar. Despite being primarily a historical account, the book contains some messianic, apocalyptic content, albeit lesser than the Book of Enoch.
The Book of Jubilees' only complete version is in Ethiopian, but significant portions exist in Greek, Latin, and Syriac. Initially purportedly penned in Hebrew, it is at times viewed as an initial draft of Genesis. R.H. Charles, an esteemed Biblical scholar and translator, suggests that Jubilees is a Pentateuch version influencing the earliest Greek Jewish Bible, the Septuagint.
